Free India expects everyone to do his duty towards her. Students are no exception to it. They, in fact, have more responsibility and have to play an important role in free India. Upon our students has fallen the big task of rapid reconstruction of their backward country.of building up the 'RamRajya' of Mahatma Gandhi's dream. To accomplish that task they must qualify themselves as teachers, doctors, engineers, technicians and statement.By their contribution in the fields of art science and literature, they must secure for India is honoured place amongst the nations of the world.

Today communalism threatens to break the country into pieces. Religion is being used to secure votes. This must not be done. It is the duty of students to see that religion is declined from politics. Religion must not be misused for political purposes. Further, students must shun violence. Violence leads to terrorism. Every effort must be made to do away with it. Students as citizens of India must play an active part in putting down such evils. Students should participate in the political life of the country, but not at the cost of their studies. No doubt, the voting age has now been lowered to 18 years, but this does not mean that they should neglect their studies. The students had also played in a very important role during India's struggle for independence. But after India's independence it seems that students have no aim and noble cause before them for which they can utilise their energy. They are the future builders of the nation. . Their duty in the present is to prepare for the future. They should be well equipped morally, emotionally, mentally and physically. In this way alone would they do discharging their duty to their motherland.

The students can also be associated with the removal of many social evils in the society. The students can help in rooting out out the evil of dowry from the society by taking solemn pledge, they will not accept any dowry at the time of their marriage. they can help in the removal other evils like gambling, drinking, making illicit liquor etc.

The other important role which the students can play is that they should work for the national unity and emotional integration in the country. They should work against the communal, provincial, linguistic and separatist tendencies in the country. They should develop and promote the spirit of Indian first and Indian last, rather than thinking in terms of a Sikh, Muslim, christian or a Hindu.
Students are the torchbearer of the glory of India. they must preserve and spread the light of her glory by their glorious deeds. their role in free India is bright. They are to shape the future destiny of the country which they can do only when they shape their own character and personality.
